The latest statistics released by Essential Science Indicators (ESI) on 10 November revealed that the GZU discipline of Environment & Ecology has listed in the world’s top 1% of ESI for the first time, which is a major breakthrough in its development. So far, five GZU disciplines, namely Chemistry, Plant & Animal Science, Engineering, Agricultural Science and Environment & Ecology, have ranked in the world’s top 1% of ESI.
In recent years, GZU has been promoting the “double first-class” initiative. With the support policy of “strengthening Guizhou University” by Guizhou Province, it optimized the layout of disciplines and talents, pooled the strengths of the disciplines in environment and ecology, and organized scientific research on the key issues of building a solid ecological shield in the upper reaches of Yangtze River and Pearl River. By doing so, it provides important support for the “Guizhou practice” in environment protection based on the guiding principle of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”, and plays a key role in Guizhou’s high-quality development.
