On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the founding of Guizhou University (GZU), the unveiling ceremony of the new GZU History Museum was held on November 13 after nearly two years of elaborate preparations. Chen Xiangshen, vice president of GZU, presided over the ceremony.

Those present at the ceremony included some officials from provincial organs, former and current leaders of GZU or its predecessors, heads of relevant departments and colleges, representatives of retired personnel, teachers and students of GZU.

On behalf of GZU, Li Jianjun, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, expressed his sincere gratitude to all those who have supported and participated in the construction of this museum. Li pointed out the significance of the museum-- it displays the culture and development of GZU, and serves as an important connection between teachers and students and between GZU and its alumni. The pictures, data, and objects exhibited in the museum record GZU’s 120-year devotion to higher education and its contributions to national and local economic and social development in different historical periods. Li noted that history is an invaluable asset. He said that relevant departments including the Archives and the History Museum of GZU should continue in-depth research of the GZU’s history, strengthen the collection and protection of archives and cultural relics, enrich the exhibits, enhance the inheritance of GZU’s history and culture, and tell better stories about GZU.

The leaders Chen Jian, Long Chaoyun, Li Jianjun and Song Bao’an jointly inaugurated the new History Museum.

The museum name were inscribed by Chen Zuwu, a member of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the former director of the Institute of History, and an alumnus of GZU majoring in history in 1961.

Then followed the inauguration ceremony of the bronze statues of four GZU founders, namely Zhou Gongshou, Zhang Tingxiu, Luo Danyi, and Qin Tianzhen. The bronze statues were donated by the alumni, in honor of the merits, educational philosophy and spirit of hard work of the founders.

Chen Jian, Long Chaoyun, Xu Leren, Li Xiang, Shen Zhendong, Li Jianjun and Song Baoan unveiled the bronze statues together. All present bowed to the statues, and the student representatives presented flowers to them.

The original GZU History Museum, built in 2007, was located in the Boxue Building on the East Campus. The construction of the new museum started at the end of 2020. With a total area of nearly 1,300 square meters, it consists of the Hall of Museum Chronicles, the Preface Hall, the Hall of History, the Hall of Progress, the Hall of Achievements and Prospects, Area of Exhibits and Archives, and the Multi-functional Interactive Area. The new museum is designed in an elegant, classical yet novel style. It displays GZU's 120-year history through a combination of photos, texts, real objects, multimedia and three-dimensional models.
