“Teaching Innovation Competition” Cultivates High-Quality, Specialized, Innovative Teacher Workforce

Recently, the fourth National Teaching Innovation Competition for College Teachers, organized under the guidance of the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and hosted by the China Association of Higher Education, concluded at the University of Electronic Science and Technology. Faculty members from Guizhou University achieved outstanding results. The “Chemical Biology” course, directed by Yang Wenchao from the Center for R&D of Fine Chemicals, secured first place in the New Agricultural Science Professor Category. Additionally, the “Biochemistry” course, led by Jia Yulong at the College of Liquor and Food Engineering, clinched the top position in the Curriculum Ideological and Political Education Lecturer Category. Further commendations include second place for the “Principles and Applications of Sensors” course, headed by Yang Jiansheng from the College of Electrical Engineering, in the New Engineering Associate Professor Category, and second place for the “Wine Technology” course, led by Wang Chunxiao at the College of Liquor and Food Engineering, within the New Engineering Professor Category. Guizhou University not only ranked first in Guizhou Province but also achieved third place nationally in total awards, marking it’s most successful performance in this competition to date. Additionally, the university hosted the provincial competition and was honored with the Top Ten Outstanding Organization Award for its exemplary organizational capabilities.

The National Teaching Innovation Competition for College Teachers officially commenced in November 2023, spanning 32 competition zones throughout the country. A total of 1,249 colleges and universities engaged in the campus competition, involving 104,686 teachers, while 25,761 educators participated at the provincial level. In the national competition, 1,779 teachers showcased their expertise across 483 courses. The event recognized outstanding contributions with 73 first prizes, 170 second prizes, and 240 third prizes awarded nationwide. Notably, this year introduced an innovation track emphasizing the integration of industry and education. Representing Guizhou Province, the team led by Zhang Wanping from GZUs College of Agriculture will compete in the national finals, scheduled to be held in November at Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

In recent years, our university and the Party Committee has prioritized the integration of competitions with teaching, striving to cultivate a high-quality, professional, and innovative teaching team. By leveraging teaching competitions as a platform, we have implemented pre-competition workshops and post-competition training camps for all participants, thereby fostering continuous educational reforms and enhancing educators' competencies in instruction and mentorship. This initiative has significantly impacted the development of university faculty across Guizhou, providing vital intellectual support and securing the talent necessary for advancing the region's educational system.
