GZU Holds 2024 Fall Semester Work Conference

On the morning of August 24, Guizhou University (GZU) held its 2024 Fall Semester Work Conference at the West Campus. The event was attended by all university leaders, department-level officials, national talents such as academicians and recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, provincial experts, representatives of academic or disciplinary leaders, heads of democratic parties and united front groups, as well as teacher and student representatives. Zhang Jie, Deputy Party Secretary of the university, presided over the conference.

Yang Wei, Party Secretary of the university, provided an in-depth analysis and outlook on the university’s work from three perspectives: enhancing awareness, promoting systematic advancement, and ensuring the leadership of Party building. She emphasized the need for the university to align its work closely with the spirit of the 3rd Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. Yang called for bold innovation and urged the university community to break free from traditional constraints, fostering a strong consensus on the necessity of reform. She encouraged the university to embrace responsibility, inject fresh energy into reform and development, and systematically advance its reform tasks while continuing to innovate. By optimizing resource allocation, deepening interdisciplinary collaboration, and integrating education, research, and internationalization, the university can achieve comprehensive progress in its high-quality development. Yang also stressed that Party building serves as a vital guarantee for the university’s reforms, calling for the strengthening of grassroots Party organizations and the enhancement of Party officials’ capabilities to ensure solid progress in reforms and provide robust political and organizational support for the university’s continued advancement.

President Song Bao’an presented a comprehensive summary of the university’s achievements in the first half of the year and outlined key tasks for the new semester. He emphasized the importance of fully implementing the spirit of the 3rd Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, highlighting the strategic need for integrated reforms in education, science, and talent development. Song urged faculty and students to embrace innovative thinking and actively engage in reforms, emphasizing the importance of fostering a spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship across the university. He stressed the need to uphold the Party’s leadership, consolidate collective efforts, and continue enhancing the university’s academic and research capacities. Moreover, he called for further internationalization, improvement in talent recruitment and training mechanisms, and deepening of educational and teaching reforms to ensure success in the undergraduate education evaluations and assessments. Song encouraged the university community to remain determined, innovative, and proactive in driving the university’s high-quality development, contributing to the cultivation of more highly competent talent to serve the local economy and society.


At the conference, leaders from departments and schools, as well as faculty representatives, presented reports on topics such as teaching, disciplinary enhancement, talent recruitment and training, scientific research, student innovation competitions, and international exchanges. They also proposed specific work strategies and suggestions. The reports were well-organized and fully supported by data and facts, demonstrating the university’s solid progress and achievements across various areas.
